This past week, my son and I, along with two friends, escaped the humid heat of the south to Vail, Colorado for three nights in the mountains. It was the perfect blend of adventure, rest, and connection—exactly what we all need right now, right?!
We stayed at The Hythe, a Luxury Collection Resort, in a three-bedroom penthouse. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed panoramic views of the valley, and every morning I found myself listening to the birds and watching them fly by as the sun rose over the mountains.

We embraced the rhythm of mountain life—warm, golden days filled with activity and chilly mornings and evenings that invited cozy layers and relaxing moments. The boys especially enjoyed the resort’s offering of s’mores by the outdoor fire pits each evening.
Just steps from the hotel, I discovered the Gore Creek Trail. The sound of rushing water and the pine trees surrounded me as I wandered. There’s something about walking near water that slows time in the best way. Within walking distance, you’ll find Lionshead and Vail Village—each one full of charm, cobblestone streets, and alpine beauty. From boutiques to cafes to little markets, I loved getting lost in it all.
One evening, we enjoyed a memorable dinner at La Nonna, an Italian gem in Vail Village. The handmade pasta, perfectly shaken martinis, and mountain breeze through the open windows made it a highlight of the trip. We also loved Vintage for brunch one morning before the boys took off for a round of golf. A cute French brasserie in Vail Village, offering a variety of options and portion sizes. We started with the beignets and split the swiss forest galette, which was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The huckleberry bacon french toast was another dish ordered at our table and it was enough to serve an entire family and looked amazing.

No trip to Vail is complete without a little wellness—and The Hythe spa did not disappoint. I especially loved the Himalayan Salt Therapy Lounge (pictured below).

On our last full day, we ventured out for a white water rafting trip. Laughing, paddling, and bouncing over rapids was exhilarating—it pushed us out of our comfort zones in the best way. Watching my son beam with excitement in his helmet and life vest was a core memory I’ll never forget.
There’s something deeply special about Vail in the summer. The contrast of vibrant sun and cool mountain air, the water moving down the creek, the bright colors of the flowers, and the joy of watching your child experience nature.
This trip wasn’t just a quick getaway—it was a collection of quiet, beautiful moments with my son that I’ll carry with me. And isn’t that what travel is really about?

WHAT I WORE
Day 1: Travel Day

Comfort is key when traveling, but I never want to look sloppy. I always go for comfortable, loose fitting pants or jeans. These are Veronica Beard and my current go-to white jean.
I always wear a sweater over my shoulders in case I get cold on the plane. This one is Hunter Bell and SO soft and comfy, but from a previous season, so I am unable to link this one.
I also never travel without a little caffeine booster, and this one pictured is my favorite. Linked here. (Purple Blast)
Day 2: Brunch & Exploring

For brunch, I wore a lightweight matching linen set by Julie Amory. I love it because it’s stylish, comfortable, and conservative. It’s perfect for a warm day and walking around if you need to.
After the boys played golf, we walked the trail path to Vail Village and I wore these Alo shorts paired with a fitted knit tank, and the most comfortable walking shoe by APL. I always get so many compliments on these shoes.
Day 3: Rafting & Dinner

This was my dinner look for La Nonna. I wore denim trousers with a knit sleeveless top, and cashmere sweater over my shoulders because it turns cold after the sun goes down and I think it just adds to the look. I also tied a silk scarf around my neck for an added pop of color. My shoes are a thong sandal with a low block heel (a wedge would work well with this too) to dress up the look, but it’s not too dressy or hard to walk in.
Day 4: Travel Day
I have to say, when I’m packing I never plan my travel home outfit. I usually just wear something left in my luggage that hasn’t been worn yet on my trip and throw that on. And I actually cannot even remember what I wore this day. Don’t overthink this one.
